today did a quick read through Beyond Dichotomies: Histories, Identities, Cultures, and the Challenge of Globalization. Ed. Elisabeth Mudimbe-Boyi.
i got the boook out of the library b/c it had an essay by pratt in it. but i didn't find this essay all that helpful.
got some good stuff to think about though from Michel-Rolph Trouillot's "The Perspectives of the World: Globalization Then and Now" and also Emily Apter's "Warped Speech: The Politics of Global Translation" (which felt a little too close to my project for comfort). I think I will also photocopy Edouard Glissant's "The Unforeseeable Diversity of the World" and put it on reserve for the graduate workshop.
to look up: Richard Wright's Black Power.
